About The Inkwell

The Inkwell puts the federal numbers on every U.S. four-year college side by side: what it costs after aid, who gets in, who finishes and what graduates earn.

Every college page is built from the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard, the institution-level “most recent cohorts” file. We keep colleges that are currently operating, award mainly bachelor’s degrees and report enough data to compare.

Net price is the average annual cost after grants and scholarships for full-time students receiving federal aid. Earnings are the median for former students working and not enrolled ten years after entry. Graduation rate is completion within 150% of normal time.

Founding year, motto and association memberships come from Wikidata (CC0), matched to each college by its IPEDS unit ID; logos, seals and campus photos come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences, with the author and licence under every image and on the image credits page.

Numbers are copied as published, rounded for display. Small cohorts are suppressed by the source and appear as a dash. The Inkwell is independent and is not affiliated with any college or with the Department of Education.
